It has been reported that exosomes contain nucleic acids, proteins, etc., and the nucleic acids (microRNA and messenger RNA) secreted by cells are transferred to recipient cells via exosomes. Therefore, exosomes are considered as communication tools between cells.

There have been reports demonstrating that exosomes released from highly malignant cancer cells can influence less malignant cells, altering their properties.
